How is Anxiety and Menopause Connected?

Menopause usually occurs around 50 years of age, and it brings with it huge changes in a womans life. Even though at times menopause can be a blessing as it puts an end to the monthly menstrual cycles, which no woman enjoys, it also shuts down the reproductive system, which can be an emotional time in a womans life.

Menopause manifests itself in many ways, because most of the time it causes hormonal imbalances. That triggers mood swings and other disorders such as increased appetite, fatigue, cravings for sweet dishes, depression, and anxiety.

Dealing With Anxiety and Menopause

What causes anxiety precisely during menopause is not exactly known other than the female hormones, which are estrogen and progesterone. Hormone imbalance can easily cause mood swings, which women have experienced before during their monthly cycle. However, anxiety and menopause are related due to other reasons as well, such as reaching a mature age in life where you cannot have children anymore.

Menopause brings along many changes both mentally and physically, and that can be scary for some women and will trigger anxiety. Anxiety in menopause manifests through the following symptoms: insomnia, and eating disorders such as increased appetite, which usually leads to fast weight gain and migraines.

Treating Anxiety and Menopause

You can treat anxiety and menopause because it is not a disease but a natural symptom that occurs due to normal changes in the human body. There are many ways to treat anxiety when it occurs due to menopause. One very popular treatment is hormonal drugs to balance the hormones. However, every case of anxiety must be evaluated separately and only then reach a treatment pattern.

Balanced diet and exercise is another thing your doctor will prescribe, because during menopause the body will require extra supplements of vitamins and minerals. Menopause is a difficult time in a womans life as both her body and mind undergo significant changes which will affect the rest of her life. Special care, love and consideration is required from the family and friends.
