Planning Your Paintball Games

Most paintball games require pre-planning, as the most popular types are those considered "scenario," or ones that require a team to finish a certain objective. If you ever played "capture the flag" as a child, you understand how this works. It's not simply a matter of overpowering your opposing teammates, but you need to follow through with a certain given purpose.

For example, one of the more popular paintball games in recent years has revolved around the scenario of an alien invasion. A certain area of the field or object is considered the alien's ship, and the "humans" need to capture and destroy the ship, while the "aliens" need to eliminate so many humans, or need to capture their capital building on the opposite side of the field. This isn't just a free-for-all of two opposing teams running toward each other, but there are certain rules in these paintball games. Certain items are often labeled as props. For example, there can be boxes marked as explosives, and to capture these boxes means to be able to use them to eliminate opponents, or their base, or something else. Some of these props may be assigned a point value, and if one team captures them and brings them back to their own home base, they are awarded so many points. Paintball games such as this work on a "win by attrition" system, wherein the team needs to reach a certain objective but needs so many points as well.

Some paintball games are recreations of certain battle scenes from history, such as defending a particular castle or fortress from an invading army. There can be equal numbers of team members on each side, or one is given an advantage of position for having less team members, and so on. Again, these types of paintball games have rules that accompany them, such as having to remove props from the fortress or castle, not just eliminating players.

If you're someone planning paintball games for your team or a tournament, you see how it takes weeks, maybe even months to plan the perfect scenario. It pays to get creative, but not too complicated of course. However, if you put some thought into it and plan it right, it will be well worth the effort when it comes time for game day or your tournament, as all the players get caught up in the fun and excitement of the perfect game.
