The Nostalgic Scent Of Honeysuckle Essential Oil

One of the most expensive aromatherapy oils is also one of the most lovely to smell - honeysuckle essential oil. Because it is so expensive, it usually is offered blended in a very small percentage, sometimes with other essential oils. Jasmine blends particularly well with honeysuckle. As with most aromatherapy oils, do not put a 100% pure drop of essential oil on your skin or in the bath until you have first done a patch test to see if you are allergic to it or not. If you are not sure, blend it. But, as mentioned before, most honeysuckle essential oil for sale is already blended.

What It Smells Like

Honeysuckle essential oil can release some very strong memories for whoever is sniffing it. This is one of the essential oils most noted for its effects on the emotions rather than the body. The emotion one tends to feel is nostalgia, perhaps happy memories will be released. Some sniffers will unconsciously smile and not realize they are doing it. Unless there has been some sort of traumatic childhood event where the scent of honeysuckle was present, the emotions brought up in a sniffer are generally positive.

One of the reasons conventional medicine tends to roll its eyes at aromatherapy is that it is unpredictable. Each person will have slightly different physical and emotions reactions to each scent. Say your local cemetery had an overabundance of honeysuckle when you were a kid. You might wind up having very different feeling about honeysuckle's smell than someone who had their bedroom surrounded by honeysuckle vines in summertime. If you have any sort of violent, negative, paranoid or incredibly sad emotions triggered just by the smell of honeysuckle essential oil, then you really should discontinue use.

Uses

Because of the mostly happy feeling it produces, honeysuckle essential oil is used in gentler therapies. You can put a few drops in the bath, you could mix a few drops with unscented body lotion to carry the scent about with you longer or you could use it in an aromatherapy oil burner or diffuser. What some people like to do is make a honeysuckle hydrosol spray as a room freshener. All it consists of is water and a few drops of honeysuckle essential oil in an empty and clean spray bottle. You just spritz it around willy-nilly but try not to saturate any area. No matter how good it smells, do not drink it.
