Commonly used are the combined biological and mechanical aquarium filtration systems. It is designed to either convert ammonia to nitrate or remove it. And sometimes it also removes phosphate from water. It will be at the expense of aquatic plants if you remove them. A fish aquarium is usually placed on a specially made stand. They should be strong and level because of the weight of an aquarium. It will may distort, leak or crack if the tank is not level. The stands are often built like cabinets to allow storage.
